Salesforce is One of FORTUNE’S Top 10 Best Companies to Work For!

FORTUNE's list publicly recognizes workplace cultures where employees take pride in their work, trust and enjoy working with their colleagues and appreciate their work environment. We are honored to be ranked among FORTUNE's top ten best places to work for the second year in a row.

So, what exactly makes Salesforce a great place to work? Our most recent employee survey tells the tale. We give back: 96 percent feel good about the way we contribute to the community. We win as a team: 94 percent of employees surveyed say people are willing to give extra to get the job done. And we rally together as a family, or, as we like to say, an “Ohana”: 92 percent of employees agree that people care about each other here. The result? An incredible 96 percent of employees are proud to tell others they work at Salesforce.

As our company continues to grow, we do everything we can to keep that Salesforce love going strong. Here are just a few of the ways we enhance our culture and keep employee engagement high.

Salesforce was founded on an integrated philanthropy model: we donate 1 percent of our employee time, 1 percent of our equity, and 1 percent of our product to help improve communities around the globe. That means every employee gets six paid days off each year to volunteer. We urge employees to use their volunteer time to give back to causes they believe in, organize team-building volunteer events, and promote a culture of caring that extends beyond our walls. They really value this opportunity to make the world a better place.

We align around common goals. When Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff started Salesforce, the first thing he did was write a V2MOM. It stands for Vision, Values, Methods, Obstacles, and Measures. Today, V2MOM keeps us all aligned, accountable, and working together to achieve our objectives. Every employee has a V2MOM, and all of those V2MOMs roll up to the CEO’s V2MOM, creating the framework to turn the corporate vision into a reality.

We promote an open, transparent culture. We want to hear from our employees about what’s working and what’s not, so we make it easy for employees to share their feedback. We have community forums where people feel comfortable speaking their minds. Instead of sending out lengthy, long-winded employee surveys, we use short snackable surveys, targeted Chatter polls, and real-time feedback so that management can quickly take action.

We help employees grow and develop. We want all employees to constantly expand their skill sets, learn, and advance professionally. Talent development is a priority, and we make it easy for employees to access the tools that will propel them forward in their careers. That’s why we recently launched #dreamjob navigator, an internal portal chock-full of resources: links to courses, training programs, job shadowing, and mentorship opportunities.  

We recognize our employees. It’s important to thank our employees, who are the champions of our culture, for their hard work and dedication. We do that in a variety of ways: special “Thank You” badges on Chatter, cool desktop surfboards distributed when employees reach major milestones, and regular special events. We also thank our tenured employees who have been with us over ten years at an annual blowout celebration in San Francisco.

To pick the “100 Best,” FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the institute’s Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. This survey asks questions related to employees' attitudes about management's credibility, overall job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts.
